Emma Souter

Painter, potter and interdisciplinary practitioner, Emma perceives using multi sensory practices which inform her work. Influenced by coastal and rural landscapes and subjects along path, plimsoll, plumb and horizon lines; she incorporates walking, pottery, sound, writing and collecting as part of her practice. Best known for her large scale, semi abstract expressionist paintings, Emma’s compositions are all processes of 'looking to be still' or 'looking to distil'.

Emma is the creative director for GRAFT STUDIOS in Sandown, with over 25 years experience working in the arts in various roles; as an artist, art tutor, facilitator, assessor, studio manger, learning co-ordinator and curator. Working at The Manchester College, Milton Keynes College, Mind, Daler Rowney, Artsmart, Commercial Square Studios, British School of Upholstered Furniture, Bucks Adult Learning and Ayres House Studios. She has taught art in leisure, educational, family learning, staff training, SEN and offender learning settings.
