For many years, Jules worked as an illustrator, quietly wishing she could one day see her own children’s books in print. Then an off-chance remark gave her the nudge she needed, and she plucked up the courage to bring Vincent and the Vampires to life. That was back in 2012.

Jules works from Jubilee Stores in Newport, where she spends her time making books and building tiny worlds. She says, “I love making stories out of the silly things that pop into my head, or putting to paper a hare-brained scene straight from my imagination. Sometimes those ideas become books, and sometimes they turn into little worlds you can peer into.”

Working in layers, either with physical paper and collage or digitally, Jules builds up colour, texture, and atmosphere as she goes. Her work is inspired by people, animals, seascapes, plants, woodland, and a lifelong fondness for the whimsical and the magical.
Visitors to the studio will find both books and tiny worlds in progress, each feeding into the other, and all made with a love of storytelling, detail, and quiet wonder.

Her books include Vincent and the Vampires, Royal Fleas, The House on Hare Hill, Fidget, Nature Calls, Bluebell’s New School, Wally and Bert BFFs, Flossie Bonce, and Vincent and the Mermaid.
Do step inside and take your time, there are stories and small worlds tucked into every corner. 🫖🌿
